Don’t get scared just yet! Maybe the adrenaline rush will help you survive this time as well! Find the answers to most commonly asked questions down below:
1. WILL IT HURT?
Yes, but what else were you expecting? From what most people have revealed, the pain of getting a tattoo removed is quite a lot. But then one must not forget that the feeling of pain is relative and every person has a different threshold for it. Some say they you do not feel the pain at all but I firmly believe that it is not possible. Laser tattoo removal machines have Q- switched lasers which create nanosecond, single color and precise wavelength, light energy which carries energy to the skin and is selectively absorbed by tattoo ink particles shattering them into smaller ink particles without harming the surrounding skin. So if it sounds that technical, then think of the actual process. If you are very sensitive to pain then consider some other options like numbing cream or painkiller injections!
2. HOW MUCH TIME DOES IT TAKE?
If you are thinking that one treatment will suffice, then you are mistaken. It will take time (6-8 treatments). The amount of time between each treatment is also crucial as trying to get the tattoo removed in haste can lead to wounds. After each treatment, the skin is allowed to heal a little bit before it can take more abuse. Apart from that, the color of your tattoo matters. Black ink is the easiest to remove and brighter colors like red or green take more time to get removed.
3. WILL THERE BE A SCAR?
Actually, the tattoo can be lightened but complete removal is not always possible. However, if you consult a good professional who uses the required equipment correctly then chances of scarring are low. Colored tattoos are the most difficult to remove are likely to keep showing. Different colors are removed with different lasers and not many people know that.
4. HOW MUCH WILL IT COST?
Let me tell you, your skin will not be the only thing that will burn, your pocket will too! Each session is expensive. Even a small sized can take around 10,000 INR. Removing larger tattoos will be even more costly. Of course, the more colorful your regret patch is, the more money it will take up.
5. WHAT ARE THE POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS?
Immediately after your session, you will find blisters, redness and swelling. But this is all normal and will go eventually. Ideally, your therapist should cover the treated area with antibacterial cream and bandage to prevent infections. But aftercare is required for if an infection breaks out then you are in for trouble! Tattoo removal could lead to hypo-pigmentation (skin lightening) or hyper-pigmentation (skin darkening), both of which will look un-natural. Trying to undo a tattoo is costlier than getting one, so don’t add up to the costs by picking on the wound and then making several added appointments to your dermatologist!
